Killed by a Drunk Truck Driver – Is Alcohol Use Common in Truckers?

An Ocean Township man recently died after being rear-ended by a tractor-trailer. The accident occurred in mid-afternoon on September 7 on Route 440. The trucker smashed into the back of a Hyundai Sonata and jackknifed, striking two other vehicles. The driver of the Sonata was pushed into the back of another vehicle and was pronounced dead an hour later. The truck driver was charged with driving under the influence. Other drivers were treated for minor injuries. Prior to the accident, a witness called 911 to report the truck driver’s erratic driving. Causes of Truck Accidents Many truck accidents occur due to the actions of other drivers, but not all of them. Country Star Troy Gentry Dies in South Jersey Helicopter Crash

Troy Gentry of the popular country music group Montgomery Gentry has died. The band, known for songs like “Something to Be Proud Of” and “Roll With Me,” consisted of Gentry and Eddie Montgomery, younger brother of ‘90s superstar John Michael Montgomery. Over the past 17 years, the group became one of country music’s most successful acts, with millions in album sales, more than 25 charting songs and ending Brooks and Dunn’s eight-year reign as CMA Awards Vocal Duo of the Year. Gentry was taking a helicopter tour of the area near a resort where he was set to play a concert on the night of September 8. While flying with pilot James Evan Robinson, something went wrong. Serious Charges Dismissed in Death of Penn State Student Timothy Piazza

A New Jersey man named Timothy Piazza died on February 4, 2017 after a hazing ritual at a University of Pennsylvania frat house. Piazza was participating in a series of challenges involving alcohol after pledging to Beta Theta Phi. Shortly after finishing “the gauntlet,” a challenge to quickly consume beer, wine and liquor, Piazza became highly intoxicated. Security footage captured his chilling and tragic final hours. Many of the fraternity members involved in his death were charged with crimes, including involuntary manslaughter and felony assault. However, many of those serious charges have now been dismissed. 12 of the frat brothers now face lesser charges, including alcohol violations, hazing and reckless endangerment.
