Are Cars Purchased from CarMax Safe?

Planning on shopping for a car at CarMax anytime soon? You should be aware that some of the vehicles there may not be safe to drive. A recent study showed that many of the vehicles at selected CarMax lots had recalled vehicle parts that had not yet been repaired. The survey examined vehicles at three lots (one in Connecticut, one in Massachusetts and one in California) and discovered that 27 percent of vehicles for sale had at least one open recall. These recalls included, among other things, Takata’s notorious defective air bag inflators as well as General Motors ignition switches. Both of these auto components have been linked to car accident injuries and deaths. New Tech is Reducing Car Accident Rate, But May Encourage Risky Driving

New studies from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) show that new technology is leading to a reduction in car accidents. But is this new tech also encouraging risky behaviors on the road? The two technologies mentioned in the studies are lane departure warning and blind spot detection. Lane departure warning tech alerts a driver when a vehicle is about to leave its lane. The tech comes in many forms, from simple sound alerts to ones that react and steer away from danger. Blind spot detection provides drivers with sensors and cameras that can help the driver see things outside of their usual range of vision. How Much Are These Technologies Reducing Car Accidents? The study suggests that lane departure warning technology lowers rates of single-vehicle, sideswipe and head-on crashes by 11 percent.
