David R. Spevack Joins Panel on Conditional Dismissals

David Spevack, Esq. will be a keynote speaker at a seminar on the finer points of New Jersey’s new Conditional Dismissal Program. What Is a Conditional Dismissal? A “conditional dismissal” allows first-time offenders to avoid jail time and choose diversionary treatment instead. Defendants in these cases plead guilty to the charges to receive sentences of therapy, probation or community service. New Jersey already has similar diversionary programs for low-grade felony crimes and minor drug offenses. However, before the Conditional Dismissal Program, first time offenders charged with petty crimes like lewdness, simple assault or shoplifting had to plead guilty or not guilty. Certain violations, like domestic violence or drunk driving, are not eligible for the program. Driver Suffers Critical Injuries in Turnpike Truck Accident

Officials are investigating the cause of a New Jersey Turnpike truck accident that occurred on June 17, according to My Central Jersey. The collision reportedly involved a commercial truck and a van, according to New Jersey State Police Sergeant Adam Grossman. The driver of the van was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and the status of the truck driver was not made available to the media at the time of publication. Truck accidents have the potential to harm dozens of motorists and pedestrians, which is why truck drivers and companies are subject to strict Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. Truck Driver Charged in Fatal New Jersey Crash

A truck driver has been charged with vehicular homicide following a truck accident on Route 130 in East Windsor, according to NJ Online. Robert W. Conover Jr., 52, is accused of failure to observe a signal and reckless driving that lead to an accident which killed Rangaro Sudhakara, 74, on May 15. Conover was driving a truck for his concrete company north on Route 130 when he ran through a red light and collided with Sudhakara riding in his sedan. The accident remains under investigation. Police did not speculate as to what may have caused Conover to run the red light. The police must have had a reason to suspect that Conover was negligent in order to press criminal charges.
