Woodbridge Boating Accident Injures 8, 2 Critical

A devastating boating accident in the Arthur Kill Channel left ten people injured, two critically, on August 13. Witnesses said they heard a loud crash and turned to see the boat crashed against rocks, with people strewn about the deck. It was a hard hit, witnesses said, leading the boat to stop instantly. Several of the victims were knocked unconscious, and one had to be taken away by medevac helicopter. All eight people were hospitalized following the incident. What Do I Do After a Boating Accident? What Caused the Deadly Speedboat Accident at the Jersey Shore?

A crash off the coast of New Jersey left one man dead and another injured. The crash occurred during a preliminary event for the Grand Prix Race Off at Point Pleasant Beach. Two boats, Repeat Offender and Smith Brothers, were racing when, for an unknown reason, the Repeat Offender steered into the other boat’s path. Rough water led to Smith Brothers becoming airborne, and when it came down, it came down on top of the other boat. Serious head trauma led to the death of one of the boaters, while his two companions were hospitalized, at least one in critical condition. According to one of the boaters, his boat had not seen choppy waters like those present that day since 2004. Police are still unsure what caused the accident. Safe Boating Practices Can Save Lives

With the arrival of summer comes the urge to take to New Jersey’s waterways and soak up some sun. However, it seems the number of recreational boating accidents is increasing and heading out onto the water is becoming a more dangerous activity. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, approximately 4,158 recreational boating accidents occurred in 2015, killing 626 and causing more than 2,613 reported injuries. Unfortunately, 122 of those boating accidents occurred in New Jersey, causing eight deaths.
