What Are New Jersey’s Deadliest Roads?

It’s fairly well-known that New Jersey is the most densely populated state. We’re often reminded of this when traveling down busy roads during rush hour traffic. However, there are several roadways that carry a larger death toll than others in the state due to the sheer number of commuters traveling on them. Two reports compiled by NJ.com and NJSpotlight outline the deadliest roads in New Jersey. Many New Jersey Roadways are Dangerous Due to Design and Congestion Given that the New Jersey Turnpike is so busy, it should come as no surprise that it tops our list for most dangerous roadway. It averages 24 fatalities per year. The Garden State Parkway is considered the second deadliest roadway. In 2014, it saw 21 fatal car accidents. What Caused This Car Accident in Old Bridge?

Earlier this month, a horrific wrong-way accident occurred in Old Bridge on Route 9. Photos of the accident show the front of an SUV pushed so far into the car, the windshield is warped and the entire engine has been crushed into the front seat. The other car is in worse condition. The roof is missing entirely, as are both of the driver-side doors. The front is a mangled mess and only one seat remains in the front area of the car. Three died in the accident, while two suffered from serious injuries. New Jersey Officer Dies in a Hit and Run Accident

Last month, a man was traveling southbound on his way home to New Jersey from New York around 3 a.m. when he suddenly hit another vehicle. Both vehicles split, and the man pulled over onto the highway’s left shoulder. The other vehicle was disabled and incapable of being driven out of the right center lane. The man exited his car to assist the disabled vehicle when he was suddenly struck by a 2008 Infinity that blew through the center lane between the two cars. The Infinity did not stop. However, the hit and run driver was tracked down five hours later. Later, the man who was struck would be identified as an off-duty New York police officer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
