Driver Killed after Truck Crashes into Building

A truck accident on July 27 claimed the life on one New York man, according to sources. An 18-wheeler burst into flames on Route 17 in Bergen County, New Jersey after crashing into a building. The driver of the truck died on the scene. Using dental records, the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Jan G. Sanon. Sanon’s body was so badly burned in the fire it was not recognizable.

Hasbrouk Heights Police Officer Ian Robertson said that the accident investigation remains in the early stages, and they have not determined a cause of the accident. The building sustained fire damage, but no one inside was seriously injured.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), approximately 41,000-45,000 Americans are killed in traffic accidents annually. Nearly 9 percent of these fatalities involve an accident with a commercial vehicle. Truck driver fatigue was listed as the cause of 1.4 percent of these accidents.
