A bus accident in New Jersey on January 10 injured at least 17 people, according to the Huffington Post. A commuter bus headed to New York City collided with a school bus, flipping the school bus on its side. The school bus slammed into a power supply stations adjacent to an apartment complex and the commuter bus continued off the road into a tree and telephone pole. No children were on the school bus at the time, but both drivers, a school aide and 16 passengers on the bus suffered various injuries.
The commuter bus was carrying between 30 and 35 people at the time of the collision. The school bus was on its way to the apartment complex to pick up children when the other bus struck it. One of the women on the commuter bus suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Accident investigators are using footage from a camera on the commuter bus to determine what may have caused the accident. The commuter bus driver, Daniel Jean-Pierre, was seriously injured after the bus hit the tree. He was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
