The Minnesota Trucking Association (MTA) has named Nathan Wick as its top truck driver of the year for 2012, according to CBS News. The MTA selects a driver every year who stands out in safety and driving efficiency. Wick was selected for 2012 because of his safety record, job performance and community service.
Wick has logged over 25,000 hours behind the wheel and 1 million miles on the road without an accident—and it is certainly no coincidence. Wick attributes his impressive safety record to discipline and regular maintenance checks on his truck. He has a thorough checklist for every aspect of his vehicle he goes over before he starts a haul. Wick also thinks that accidents could be reduced greatly if driver’s focused on the road 100 percent.
“Distracted driving is the number one thing,” said Wick. “You’ve got to keep your eyes on the road, put any electronic device aside.”
There is no better source for driver’s to look to than Wick. Wick will be traveling to Washington D.C. later in 2013 to speak to the American Trucking Association.
