Three-Car Pileup on New Jersey Turnpike Injures Five

A three-car accident on the New Jersey turnpike injured five people and halted traffic for several hours on October 17. The accident involved a charter bus, a dump truck and a car. All the vehicles involved were northbound on the Turnpike when the dump truck struck the car, causing the car to collide with a Megabus charter bus. The driver and passenger in the car had to be freed from the vehicle by firefighters.

Both trapped victims of the car were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton and were last reported in stable condition, according to hospital staff. The dump truck driver suffered facial lacerations and a head injury and was taken to a hospital in Hamilton. Two passengers on the Megabus complained of chest, neck and back pain and were taken to the Hamilton hospital as well. The driver of the Megabus was uninjured. The charter bus was carrying 47 passengers at the time of the accident.

Traffic along the Turnpike was backed up for more than six hours and spanned several miles. The accident is still under investigation and as of the time of this report, no charges have been filed.
