The driver who was involved in a single vehicle truck accident in New Jersey in October was found to be driving on a suspended license and was in possession of illegal drugs as well at the time of the crash, according to the Asbury Park Press.
The driver, 23-year-old Edwin Benitez lost control of his commercial truck and crashed into a utility pole, shutting down the roadway for several hours. As officers were investigating the accident they found a bag of marijuana in Benitez’s backpack, said Sgt. Eric Hoffman.
“I don’t know if it was a contributing factor in the crash,” said Hoffman. Benitez was charged with driving with a suspended license, operating in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, careless driving and failure to drive within a single lane. What do you think? Should Benitez ever be allowed to drive a commercial truck again? Would your opinion be different if someone were injured or killed?
