Driver Suffers Critical Injuries in Turnpike Truck Accident

Officials are investigating the cause of a New Jersey Turnpike truck accident that occurred on June 17, according to My Central Jersey. The collision reportedly involved a commercial truck and a van, according to New Jersey State Police Sergeant Adam Grossman.

The driver of the van was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and the status of the truck driver was not made available to the media at the time of publication.

Truck accidents have the potential to harm dozens of motorists and pedestrians, which is why truck drivers and companies are subject to strict Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. Here are some 2010 statistics from the FMCSA:

  • 112,370 large trucks and 12,763 buses were involved in non-fatal crashes
  • There were 44,310 truck accidents and 6,854 bus accidents resulting in injury
  • There were 2,559 trucks and 23 buses involved in accidents that required Hazmat team responses
