A truck driver was injured in a truck accident in New Brunswick on November 17, according to sources. Two tractor-trailers collided with each other after one—driven by 32-year-old Shazad Iqbal—ran through a red light and collided with one driven by 36-year-old Eric Peterson. Peterson’s truck overturned on its side on a median on the highway.
The accident occurred on Route 1, according to Sgt. Jim Ryan. The Monmouth Junction and Kingston Fire departments responded to the scene. Iqbal was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Peterson was not injured.
The highway closed for 3 hours and traffic backed up two miles. Iqbal received citations for running through the red light, according to police reports. He was also cited for several equipment violations.
