Fatal Truck Accident Shuts Down NJ Turnpike

A truck accident claimed the life of a driver on the New Jersey Turnpike, according to NBC News. A dump truck collided with a tractor-trailer in the late afternoon on April 2, and the dump truck driver died at the scene from sustained injuries. The driver of the other truck was injured and taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. A large fire following the collision forced police to shut down the turnpike, causing major delays.

New Jersey police are still not sure about what exactly caused the accident. No other injuries were reported, and the accident remains under investigation. It is fortunate no other injuries occurred—when two large trucks collide, there is often considerable damage, especially when a fire results.

“There was one deceased [and] one injured, which was the tractor-trailer driver, and two other drivers of trucks who were not injured,” says New Jersey State Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Polite.
