One man was killed and six other people were injured in a four-vehicle accident in Galloway Township on November 4 involving a tractor-trailer. According to authorities, the accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Route 30 and Pomona Road when a tractor-trailer ran a red light and collided with two vehicles. The tractor-trailer then veered into the Route 30 eastbound lane and drove over another vehicle, which caused it to overturn and become wedged underneath the truck.
The driver of the vehicle that became pinned was pronounced dead shortly after the accident at a local hospital. Six other people were injured in the four-car pileup and taken to local area hospitals. The intersection was closed for five hours while officials cleaned up the accident and conducted an investigation. At the time of this report, no charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation.
New Jersey highways are some the most densely packed roadways in the world and commercial trucks frequent these busy roads. Commercial trucks are incredibly heavy and often cannot stop in time to avoid truck accidents. When truck drivers are willfully negligent and disobey traffic laws, serious injuries can occur. The impact between a commercial truck and small car can cause catastrophic damage to the car and serious injuries to passengers inside.
Reckless truck drivers deserve to be held responsible for their actions. Driver error is a major contributor to truck accidents and can include eating or drinking while driving, texting, using a cell phone and general distraction on the road. Sometimes, truck drivers disobey regulations and do not take required break periods to meet their deadlines. This can cause fatigue on the road and lead to negligent driving habits that put other motor vehicle drivers in danger.
