A man died following an accident in the Garden State Parkway on Monday, February 18, according to CBS News. Luis Sarmiento, 21, was involved in an accident he initially survived. However, he was hit by vehicles as he was attempting to cross the interstate on foot.
Sarmiento was involved in the accident approximately 25 minutes before he attempted to cross the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway. It remains unclear why Sarmiento attempted to cross the road.
“He was struck by two vehicles,” said New Jersey State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman. “It still remains under investigation.”
Tip of the week: If you are involved in an accident on the freeway, immediately attempt to move your car to the side of the highway. Turn your hazard lights on. Take a deep breath and keep calm, it is important to react rationally. If you have children in the car keep them restrained as long as your car is far enough from the road that it is not in danger of being hit.
