Police have identified the driver of a pickup that was involved in a fatal truck accident in Pennsylvania, according to The Sentinel. Paul J. Birmingham, 78, lost control of his pickup truck and ran into the median guardrail on Interstate 81. The pickup eventually crossed over the median into oncoming traffic, where it struck a tractor trailer. The pickup collided directly with the commercial truck’s fuel-tank, engulfing both vehicles in flames, according to Pennsylvania State Police Public Information Officer Adam Reed. Birmingham was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation, and police were unsure what initially caused Birmingham to lose control of the truck. The driver of the commercial truck, Vitaly Yurchenko, 40, was able to escape the cab of his truck before it ignited. He suffered only minor injuries.
