According to NJ.com, a Perth Amboy man was recently awarded $3 million in damages for back injuries he suffered in a 2011 car accident.
The man’s case went to trial in a New Brunswick courtroom recently. His attorneys presented evidence showing that he suffered three herniated discs in his lower back, along with other damage in his lower back, that made it impossible for him to continue working as a long-haul truck driver.
The jury in the case reportedly only deliberated for an hour and 10 minutes before issuing its verdict. The accident occurred when the man was driving his personal vehicle on Donald Avenue towards the intersection of Harrington Street and a vehicle struck him. The woman driving the vehicle that struck him reportedly failed to stop at a sign, broadsiding the man, sending his car into a fence.
Due to the injuries he sustained, the man reportedly has to receive epidural injections, and a doctor testified during the trial that he would be in constant pain for the rest of his life. The man, who has four children, said he is no longer able to drive trucks on long routes and he is now making less money doing shorter hauls.
